Does the common cold cause asthma?

The common cold is a common trigger of asthma symptoms especially in children. A cold or the flu can trigger an asthma attack but does it contribute to causing asthma in the first place? The common cold is caused by the rhinovirus.

Immune stimulation by rhinovirus infections may contribute to the development of asthma.
